I’m Tripp Light. Up until last Friday night, my twin sister, Trina, and I had it pretty good. Nice house, nice school--we're even kind of easy on the eyes. But after Mom and Dad left for our lake house in Vermont, the zombies came. We call them poxers – the infected ones – the ones that have Necropoxy. Our entire neighborhood bit it, including my sister’s boyfriend, Chuck (no great loss).
We only got one text from our parents telling us to get to Aunt Ella and Uncle Don’s farm in the Berkshires any way we can. We didn't hear anything else from them, so after a pretty scary night locked in my dad’s workroom, we set off in Chuck’s Hummer to find our parents. We've even picked up some survivors along the way, including this girl I hate from high school named Prianka Patel, along with her ten-year-old autistic brother Sanjay, and a nineteen-year-old ginger muscle dude from the local university. I can't stand Prianka Patel, her brother is creepy, and Trina’s jonesing to date a college guy. This whole road trip is so uncool. All I know is I have to get to my parents before they get eaten or something. Besides, I keep trying not to notice, but Necropoxy hasn’t just infected our neighborhood or even our town. It seems no matter where I look, everyone everywhere is dead. Like really dead…a lot. |
